Foreign Body Obstruction

Another big case we had recently was a foreign body in a dog. This dog thought it would be a good idea to eat her owners laundry and started off by throwing up a sock. Her parents were worried that she had eaten something else and she had stopped eating. So we took a Barium series to determine if anything was stuck in her GI tract.
Here is a radiograph before the barium, it is difficult to see the stomach very well and there is a lot of gas in the bowels. Gnarly spondylosis as well.
Here is the last of the barium series, before surgery. This was taken about 1.5 hrs after giving the barium and it looks just like the xray taken about 15 min after giving the barium. That lets us know that the barium doesn't seem to be moving through the GI system and there is probably an obstruction in the stomach.
Needless to say, we went into surgery. We removed the sleeve of a shirt which seemed to have lodged itself in the pyloro-duodenal junction. Our patient recovered very well after the surgery!
