CSET and Deaf Awareness Yard Sale

So much has been happening...not enough time to sit down and blog...too bad, no? Anyway...so this past weekend was a scorcher, not quite summer heat but close! Saturday was a big day for me too!

First of all I wanted to go to a Deaf Awareness Yard Sale. My ASL class ended in mid-May so I really need to keep an eye on what social events are going on if I want to continue to practice my signing. This was a great opportunity! So I convinced DJ to come with me, poor guy was hesitant about it, primarily because he doesn't sign. Understandable... So my ASL teacher, Valerie, was there and we started chatting right away. There were a few other people who are taking an ASL class at Butte and then there were some deaf people too. The conversation was light and we did a lot of verbal communication too, but I learned a few new words, like "internet, e-mail, computer", a newer version of the color "gray" and how to sign "ha, ha". So it was a success!!! And DJ also got to show off the little he knows, which is mainly colors. I think it was great for him because he also learned a couple of new words. Yay!

Then...came the CSET!!! So I took the CSET Biology I subtest, which primarily tests on knowledge about astronomy, physical science and earth science. I studied so much this past week my head felt like it was going to explode. But the test guide is pretty complete and right on, most of the questions were exactly what I had studied. My only problem area was the subject of pressure and buoyancy, which happened to be an essay question, so I hope that I was able to explain my point adequately! If I pass this one, then I can take the next one in July. Fortunately the next two subtests are more about Biology, so more of what I am familiar with. Of course I still have to study since I haven't really seen the material in a few years, but I think I will feel really good about them. Now I just wait for results...

Why take the CSET at all? Well, the veterinary exams have not been going as planned and I am still stuck on the same test. I will keep trying, but it is starting to get a little old and depressing, so I am hoping that focusing on another area of Biology for a little bit will help keep me sharp and give me some confidence that I really do know what I am talking about and keep me involved in science. The CSET of course is so that I can start taking some courses towards a teaching credential in Biology, starting this summer. Who knows, maybe I'll be a high school Biology teacher? I could see myself doing that!
